This semester, AAFMCC is over 600 members strong. Together we adjuncts who make up the majority of the teaching staff at MCC can make a difference—we can unite together to address the concerns that plague us and fight for the parity that we deserve.
In order to successfully do so, we need your help.
We need individuals who, like the current AAFMCC Executive Board Members, are committed to tackling the member issues of greatest concern and priority and to ensuring that our 2018 Collective Bargaining Agreement reflects real change and substantial improvement. Such change is dependent on the solidarity, involvement, and support of our 548 members—on creating a unified front. Such a monumental task requires a team of dedicated and passionate local leaders, and we encourage you to consider becoming part of AAFMCC’s governing body by applying to serve on the AAFMCC Committee Team.
AAFMCC Committee Team Description and Duties
The AFFMCC Committee Team is a new organizational aspect of our local that was ratified by unanimous vote at the Fall General Membership Meeting on October 21, 2016. The full description of the position and duties as written in Section V of The AAFMCC Constitution and Bylaws is as follows:
The AAFMCC Executive Board will appoint up to Six (6) members to serve on our committees. This group will serve concurrently with the terms of the Executive Board. These appointed members may serve on various or multiple committees depending on current need.
Members on any committee must be AAFMCC members in good standing. Each committee will be chaired by a member of the Executive Board. Specific tasks for all committees will be formulated by the Executive Board. All committees shall meet at least once per term (fall and winter). Any recommendations from any committee must be presented to the Executive Board by the corresponding committee chairperson for approval by the Executive Board.
All members of a committee will be paid a stipend each fall and winter term. The amount of the stipend will be determined by the Executive Board. Any committee member not fulfilling his or her duties as determined by the committee chairperson may be removed by a vote of the AAFMCC Executive Board.
A. Campus Representatives Committee: Shall be chaired by the AAFMCC Vice-President. This committee will work to provide better communication between the membership and the Executive Board.
B. Budget/Finance Committee: Shall be chaired by the AAFMCC Treasurer. This committee shall be responsible for developing and maintaining an active AAFMCC budget.
C. Membership Committee: Shall be chaired by the AAFMCC Secretary. This committee shall oversee various member lists and assist with member organizing.
The Executive Board may establish other ad hoc committees to work on specific tasks with specific durations as necessary.
With the expiration of our current contract in August of 2018, this will most certainly be a pivotal time in AAFMCC’s history, and will therefore be a time for Committee Team Members to directly impact the direction and success of our local. If you are interested in playing an active and crucial role in our local’s efforts to facilitate change and to improve the working conditions for MCC’s adjuncts, this is your opportunity to do so.
Please only consider applying if you have the time to commit and if you strongly support the union movement. It is expected that all officers should be good faith representatives of the AAFMCC, its members, and its Constitution and Bylaws.
If you would like to apply to be a committee team member, please email AAFMCC President Jodi Monday at aafmcc@gmail.com. In your email, please indicate what position you are applying for, and in order to assist The AAFMCC Executive Board in the selection process, please provide us with the following information:
